In praise of.....
I no longer travel without a Moon Handbook.

Excellent resource
We took the book with us to Pittsburgh and discovered all sorts of places we wouldn't have known about otherwise. Never steered us wrong.

Pittsburgh's "h" is missing in Amazon.com listing of book
As a Pittsburgher-- born, raised and educated in one of the greatest of American cities-- it's vexing to see Amazon.com dropped my 'ometown's "h" when listing the Pennsylvania 'andbook's complete title with the incorrect spelling "Pittsburg." Pittsburgh without the "h" is like Miam, New Yor, Chicag, or Salt Lake Cit without their respective final letters. Most of My Patients Are Animals

Amazing
I recieved this book as a gift. I read it in less than a day. It's absolutlry delightful and one those books one just can put down. It's filled with stories that warm the heart. It also is filled with unique, humorous, and tear jerking stories. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys animals or day-to-day life.

The most entertaining and informative book I have ever read.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about animals or amusing anecdotes from the experiences of a veterinarian. This book opened up the possibility for me to pursue a career as a veterinarian. I recommend it to anyone and everyone. I only wish I could contact the author to thank him for writing this book, and giving me the opportunity to read it.

I read this one nont-stop, 26 hours FLAT. It's THAT good.
I just couldn't stop reading it ! THIS is the book you'll want to read to pass the time in an airport or waiting for someone in a restaurant, and yet you VALUE every book you read, not just some so-and-so story to pass time with but a really good novel with exciting, refreshing, humorous (humor IS the underlined word in this book - my belly ached, my eyes wet reading the book), yet down-to-earth story in which you'll also find sorrow, embarrassment, pride, and joy, all through the life of a humble (yes Mr.Herriot - he IS also a genious (and funny !) story teller)veterinarian. A great, compact, binded pieces of paper this surely is. Oh, and Doc Miller, if you're reading this, in chapter 15 about the nice people - the widow and her daughter, I think you LIED and YOU're the one who bought them the pu...well, any would be readers just have to derive their own conclusion about the story of the pretty and polite 16 years old and her widowed mother in chapter 15, when The Lord decided it's payback time to the nice people. Buy it, borrow it, in any case, read it. It's a great book. You'll have wonderful time reading it. Many people including me did. I still giggle everytime I remember some of his funny stories and look up at the sky everytime I remember the incident with the nice people.

My Five Senses
Published in School & Library Binding by Simon & Schuster (Juv) (May, 1994)
Author: Margaret Miller
Average review score:

Straightforward, engaging introduction to the 5 senses
My 5 year old son absolutely adores this book. He asks me to read it repeatedly, and has fun pointing out when he's using his senses just like the (adorably illustrated) child in Aliki's book does. It's a lively, fun introduction to an important scientific concept.

Not to be confused with Aliki's "My Five Senses"
Margaret Miller's book is a simple introduction to the five senses which young children can easily understand and relate to. I use it in teaching the concept of the five senses to my English as a Second Language kindergarten students. Miller presents each sense with the related body parts, which makes it easier for children to understand the sometimes complicated idea of what a "sense" is. For example, "With my eyes, I see..." and then she gives examples. The book is illustrated with Miller's photos of children of different ethnicities, and the items they are seeing, smelling, etc are relevant to most children's experience. My students used this book as a starting point to make their own books about the five senses. As a teacher, I recommend this book to anyone looking for a way to introduce some science content to little ones.

My Five Senses
Appealing pictures accompany a straight forward text. "Sometimes I use all my senses at once...When I laugh and play with my puppy, I use four senses. I see, hear, smell and touch...each sense is very important to me because it makes me aware. To be aware is to see all there is to see...hear all there is to hear...[etc]." I like the progression from simple statements to more complex ideas, especially the use of the word 'aware'. How many early readers are aware of the word 'aware' and connect it to their senses? After reading this book, they all will!

The New Conceptual Selling: The Most Effective and Proven Method for Face-To-Face Sales Planning
Published in Paperback by Warner Books (October, 1999)
Authors: Stephen E. Heiman, Diane Sanchez, Tad Tuleja, Robert B. Conceptual Selling Miller, and John Philip Coghlan
Average review score:

Combine it with "Strategic Selling" and start selling!
I read this book to prepare myself for a salescourse at the company where I work. As it turns out I am no salesman, but the trainer did note that I had a very good insight into the salesprocess. So good, in fact, that he advised me to become a selling consultant for my company instead of a salesman. All that, thanks to having read this book in combination with "The New Strategic Selling" (also by Heiman). If you really want to start selling, you must read this book!

Highly Recommended!
Throw the old rules of traditional sales out the window. Stephen E. Heiman and his co-authors, Diane Sanchez and Tad Tuleja, state in no uncertain terms that to remain a successful sales professional, you need to change the way you view the selling process. They advocate a customer-driven model of sales as the only approach for long-term success. The book includes “personal workshops” to allow you to apply these concepts directly to your sales situation. We ...recommend this book to anyone frustrated by the limitations of product-pitch selling. Note: This book is a revision of Conceptual Selling (by Robert Bruce Miller with Heiman and Tuleja, Warner Books, 1987), which has been updated to reflect the economy of today and tomorrow.

Outstanding
This was another fantastic book by the same people who brought you Strategic Selling. It provides the blocking and tackling of sales situations that fills out the strategic approach of their earlier book.

This is a professional, mature approach to selling that is sadly rare in the profession.

Nonverbal Communication in the Classroom
Published in Paperback by Patrick W. Miller and Associates (01 January, 2000)
Author: Patrick W. Miller Ph.D.
Average review score:

Buy this book!
As you might have guessed from the title, this book takes a close look at nonverbal communication in an educational setting, focusing on face-to-face interaction (including all its observable aspects, such as speech, body motion, interpersonal distance, and a number of other types of action). Additionally, Patrick W. Miller's book examines how we enter into interaction with others, as well as how some of the basic properties of interaction are intuitive.

A great read for those beginning to delve into this area of communication.

Nonverbal Communication in the Classroom is excellent!
Patrick W. Miller has written an excellent book for anyone who wants to know about nonverbal communication. Nonverbal Communication in the Classroom provides insight and information for the teacher and student in the classroom, but its lessons apply to many of life's communication situations. The book's forty-eight pages are packed with accurate definitions and insightful explanations. Nonverbal Communication in the Classroom is a must read for any educator. It would be of great value as a textbook in speech communication classes. I recommend the book highly.

Jim Skaine, Professor Emeritus, University of Northern Iowa.

A complete overview with fantastic images and explanations
The author's experience and knowledge in this area definitely shines through in this book.

Unlike other texts on the topic, this book provides the reader with straight-forward descriptions and witty asides. The illustrations which sprinkle throughout the pages of the book bring the text's messages home.

A great read! Highly recommended.

On the Art of Singing
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (May, 1996)
Author: Richard Miller
Average review score:

Hilariously Informative!
Richard Miller writes numerous essays on several subjects of FAQ regarding the preparation, performance, pedagological mysteries, and marvel of the classically trained voice. His humor adds spark and interest that keeps you reading! Two of my favorite essays are entitled "McPedagogy" and "How to Really Bomb a Masterclass." Miller creates an invigorating experience through his advice on training, musical style and interpretation, preparation for the professional life, and vocal function. What a great learning tool!

This book is great!
On the Art of Singing gives Richard Miller's views on a very broad range of topics related to singing from teaching to performing. This book gave me many great ideas that I will impliment in the future in my own singing and in teaching my students. He addresses many issues pertaining to controversial areas in performance and pedagogy today.

Pithy commentary on various aspects of singing
Richard Miller has compiled a number of his columns formerly published in NATS Journal of Singing. Sorting the subject matter into four broader categories, he deals with issues of training the singing voice, musical style and interpretation, preparation for the professional life, and the singing voice and vocal function. Miller has definite biases and is not afraid to voice them. His essays are usually succinct and to the point, spiced up with comments such as: "Someone should call a halt to the proliferation of so-called "master classes" presented by performing artists who normally do not teach." and "Woofy baritones, tinny tenors, strident sopranos, and bovine mezzos can in no way serve as surrogates for healthy voices that sound like baritones, tenors, sopranos, and mezzos because their instruments work efficiently." This is a great read and must for voice teachers and students of singing.

Pacific Northwest & Alaska on the Loose

Authors: Lauren M. Black, Emily W. Miller, and Berkeley Travel
Average review score:

Great book -- Too bad it's out of print
Brutally honest, but not so cynical that it's annoying.

Excellent
This is a query as to what happened to the On the Loose Series. Did the big boys (Fodors, Frommers, Let's Go swallow them up?) Any information about the demise of these student writers would be appreciated.

I loved this book !
This is the best guidebook I've ever read. It's brutally honest, concise, and seriously funny. Offers great resources and detailed maps. Have fun !

A Penny's Worth of Character
Published in Paperback by Jesse Stuart Foundation (January, 1993)
Authors: Jesse Stuart, Jim Wayne Miller, Jerry A. Herndon, James M. Gifford, and Rocky Zornes
Average review score:

A timeless (and timely) story of a child's honesty.
I remember reading, and rereading, this book as a child. Growing up in Kentucky, I can relate to the rural aspects of the book. The story is timeless and timely in the world today. Jesse Stuart will remain forever in my heart and the hearts of grown children everywhere who read his works an example of what goodness can come from writing for children.

A skillful illustration of the true benefits of honesty.
In "A Penny's Worth of Character" Jesse Stuart takes the reader back to a simpler time, when a boy could exchange used paper bags for a candy bar at the store. The message of the book is as old, that of honesty. Stuart skillfully illustrates the inner turmoil of a young boy who has been dishonest and how he makes it right. It's an excellent book for kids from 4th grade up and would make an excellent story to read aloud.

Most memorable book I've read in 50 years; Honesty pays!
A story that I've never forgotten in 50 years of reading. I've searched for a copy of it for 40+ years. Any one, young or old, who readys this simple story will be changed forever...unless they are the most callous individual alive
